Tulane’s Season Ends in American Championship Second Round
Mar 12, 2026 | Men's Basketball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tulane men's basketball (18-15) saw its 2025-26 campaign come to an end in the second round of the American Conference Championship after falling 60-74 to five seed Charlotte (16-16) on Thursday night. After a defensive slug fest in the first half, the Green Wave was unable to keep up with the hot shooting of the 49ers in the second frame.
Overall, Tulane finished the American Championship with a 1-1 record to close the season with an 18-15 mark. The Green Wave earned at least one win in the tournament for the sixth time since joining the league in 2014 and the fifth time under Head Coach Ron Hunter.
Rowan Brumbaugh led the offensive attack for the Wave throughout the contest finishing with 25 points 8-of-14 shooting including three makes from beyond the arc. The performance by Brumbaugh marked his 31st game in double figures this season and his 11th 20-point game. He closed the season with three straight games over 20 points including two with more than 30. Brumbaugh also added a pair of rebounds, two assists, and one steal to his stat sheet.
Asher Woods was the only other player to reach double digits in scoring as he added 14 points including 12 in the second half. Woods connected on all nine of his attempts from the charity stripe and pulled down five boards. Meanwhile, Curtis Williams Jr. led Tulane on the glass with eight rebounds to go with eight points.
Offense was a struggle in the first half for both teams as the Wave and the 49ers were locked in to open the game defensively. The Green Wave led by as many as five points during the opening frame as Brumbaugh and Williams carried the scoring load combining for 14 points.
On the defensive end of the floor in the first frame Tulane locked down Charlotte holding the 49ers to 14.7 percent (5-34) shooting from the floor. The Wave limited Charlotte to its second lowest scoring total in the first 20 minutes to hold a 20-18 advantage at the break.
Unfortunately, the 49ers flipped the script offensively after the break. Charlotte mounted an 18-0 scoring run to take control of the contest and put the Green Wave behind 27-39 with 14:18 to play.
Tulane continued to fight the remainder of the night but was unable to string together consecutive stops on defense to climb back into the game. The Wave eventually trailed by as many as 18 points before ultimately falling 60-74.
