MIAMI, Fla. - The Tulane outdoor women's track and field team was in action on Saturday, competing at the Miami Elite Invitational hosted by the third-ranked University of Miami Hurricanes. Top Tulane performances were turned in by senior throwers Jelena Jurlina and Helmi Leppanen.

Jurlina recorded a pair of NCAA Regional Qualifying marks while Leppanen posted another qualifying mark in the shot put. Jurlina threw the discus 157 feet, 11 inches to take fourth place, while her javelin throw of 149 feet, 11 inches was good enough for second place in the event. Leppanen registered a distance of 46 feet, three and a quarter inches in the shot put while also posting a season-best in the javelin at 131 feet even.

Tulane's 4x400 Relay team of sophomores Shanon Beelendorf and Kyra Lobbins and freshmen Shaina Pelham and Valencia Wilson posted a time of 3:48.95 to take sixth place. Wilson also recorded a time of 54.70 in the 400-meter dash to finish in eighth place.

Tulane returns to action next Saturday, competing at the LSU Tiger Gold meet in Baton Rouge.
