DES MOINES, Iowa - Battling a strong headwind and top competition, junior Gloria Asumnu finished sixth in the 100-meter dash to lead the Tulane women's track team at the 2006 Drake Relays on Saturday in Iowa.
Asumnu faced a 3.7 head wind, but more daunting was the competition, which included professional standouts such as Allyson Felix, Debbie Ferguson and LaKadron Ivey. The Green Wave junior's time of 12.02 seconds placed her sixth in the event.
Tulane also competed in the 4x100 and distance-medley relays. Freshmen Whitney Hampton, vanessa Kienast and Kerriann Langley joined sophomore Shanon Beelendorf in the distance-medley relay for a time of 12:28.38.
Next up for the Green Wave are the Conference USA Championships from May 11-13 in El Paso, Texas.
