New Orleans - The Tulane women's cross country team will open its 2006 fall schedule this Friday at 5:00 p.m. when it hosts the Green Wave Invitational at City Park. The three-team field includes Tulane, Conference USA rival Southern Miss and Southeastern Louisiana. The event is open to the public.
For the first time since 2004, the Green Wave will compete in a fall meet in its own city. Last season, the cross country team was sidelined and displaced due to the after effects of Hurricane Katrina, and did not compete.
"It is always exciting to begin the season and this year it means even more because we missed out on last season due to Hurricane Katrina," head coach Heather Van Norman said. "This meet gives us an opportunity to not only run at home but will give us an indication of where we are as a team. This event is good for the entire Tulane running community as well."
