NEW ORLEANS - Tulane guard Chassity Brown was named Women's Player of the Week by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association, after the sophomore scored a career-high 17 points to go with a career-best seven rebounds and four steals in her first start of the season last Wednesday.
Brown, a Shreveport, La. native and graduate of Loyola Prep, sparked Tulane's 74-65 non-conference road win over Rhode Island with 17 points as she connected on six-of-10 from the field and four-of-six from the free throw line. She grabbed seven rebounds and turned in her second block of the season.
Making her first start of the season and second career start as Tulane shuffled the lineup following an injury to Kendra Barnes, Brown topped her previous career-best of 15 points in the season-opening win over Alabama.
For the season, Brown is averaging 6.0 points per game, with 2.7 rebounds and a team-best 11 steals.
The Green Wave are 7-2 on the season, and will put on the Tulane DoubleTree Classic on Dec. 20-21. Tulane takes on Robert Morris on Thursday, Dec. 20 at Fogelman Arena at 5 p.m., with Virginia Tech meeting Texas-San Antonio at 7 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 21, the consolation game begins at 6 p.m., followed by the championship game.
