
Freshmen compete in first two days of Tiger Classic

BATON ROUGE, La. - Freshmen Arielle Minor and Nicolette Taku opened the Tiger Classic for the Green Wave track and field team, competing in their first collegiate outdoor heptathlons Friday at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium on the campus of LSU.
Taku took ninth overall with a score of 4,114, just over 100 points away from scoring in the event. Taku, a Baton Rouge native, notched her best finish in the long jump, where she placed sixth with a jump of 5.42 meters. Minor, meanwhile, placed 12th with 3,497 points with her best performance coming in the shot put. Her mark of 9.61 meters placed eighth among the event's participants and earned her 504 points.
Shevell Quinley of Arizona won the heptathlon with 5,532 points, but Syracuse led the team competition after the event by placing four athletes in the top eight for a total of 20 points.
The third and final day of the competition will feature 17 Tulane athletes, including two relay teams, participating in nine events.
