Women's Track and Field Competes in 113th Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - The Tulane women's track and field team took part in the 113th Penn Relays this weekend at Franklin Field, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, as senior Gloria Asumnu won third place in the 100-meter dash.
Asumnu posted a regional-qualifying time of 11.40 seconds in the preliminary heats of the event Friday, good for third among the 19 elite runners from across the country competing in the event. In the finals Saturday afternoon, Asumnu held onto third place with a time of 11.47 seconds.
Asumnu also was on the two Tulane relay teams that competed at the event. Along with junior Taneekwa Ross, junior Andrea Rosemond, and sophomore Shaina Pelham, Asumnu was part of the Green Wave 4x100-meter relay team that posted a time of 49.03 seconds in the preliminaries of the event Friday. Ross, Rosemond, and Asumnu returned to the track Saturday with freshman Olivia Kizzee to post a time of 1:38.42 in the 4x200-meter relay.
Tulane also sent two field athletes to the meet, as freshman Nicolette Taku and senior Christina Tegbe competed in the triple jump Friday. Taku took eighth in the event with a mark of 11.99 meters.
The Green Wave track and field team will have a week off before traveling to Houston, Texas, to compete in the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 11 and 12.
