The Rick Jones Tulane Baseball Camp will offer a variety of instructional periods during summer 2007 with three week-long day camps, a two-day hitting camp, and one day infield and pitcher/catcher camps.
Green Wave head coach Rick Jones and his staff of associate head coach/recruiting coordinator Mark Kingston, pitching coach/associate recruiting coordinator Chad Sutter and assistant coach/camp director Luke Weatherford will be on hand, as well as several Tulane student-athletes and area coaches to provide top instruction to camp participants.
Camp participants will have access to all of Tulane's state-of-the-art McWilliams Athletic Complex, which includes the newly constructed Turchin Stadium, the Theresa Sofio Hitting Facility and the two astroplay fields that make up the Westfeldt Practice Facility.
"My goals for each and every camper are well defined," Jones said. "First, for the younger player, I want to make sure that they have a clear understanding of the correct fundamentals to aid them in their development. Also, I want to make sure that each camper has a great time whether it be during the morning instructional phase or afternoon games.
"For older players, my goal is to aid and assist in refining their game and exposing them to the highest caliber of instruction. We spare no expense to hire some of the baseball's finest professional and college coaches which insures our camp's status among the nation's elite."
The Rick Jones Baseball Camp Day Camps are for players aged 6-12. The camps will run from June 25-29, July 9-13 and July 23-27 and the five-day sessions run from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. Registration for Day Camp is $250 per session. There is an optional $60 discount for a second day camp session and a $95 discount for a third session.
Hitting Camp is scheduled for July 16-17, Infield Camp will be on Wednesday, July 18, and the Pitcher/Catcher Camp is slated for Thursday, July 19. Registration for Hitting Camp is $220 while the Infield and Pitcher/Catcher Camps cost $130 each. Participants of the Hitting Camp can receive a $30 discount on one of the other one-day camps and can receive a $50 discount if they sign up for both. All three of the non-day camps are designed for players aged 11-high school senior. All fees are due upon completion of registration and space is limited.
The three day camp sessions allow participants to learn the fundamentals of throwing, hitting, catching, baserunning and team concepts. Each afternoon will feature camp games, where campers will be divided by age and skill level.
Hitting Camp is an intense two-day camp that stresses mechanics, mental approach and all fundamentals of hitting. Each hitter will have the opportunity to swing the bat over 1,000 times under the supervision of the Tulane coaching staff. Also, each hitter will be videotapes and have a chance to have his swing critiqued and evaluated in one-on-one sessions.
Infield Camp will stress the proper fundamentals in every facet of infield play and each camper will be given the same instruction that helped the Green Wave finish among the nation's leaders in fielding percentage the past two seasons. Pitcher/Catcher Camp, meanwhile, will focus on teaching proper pitching mechanics while catchers will have a chance to develop their skills through individual drills that concentrate on all aspects of the position such as blocking, receiving and throwing.
