- The contest marks the 14th all-time meeting between Tulane and Houston, with the Cougars leading the series, 10-4.
- Tulane LB Evan Lee started his 24th consecutive game, the longest active streak for the Green Wave. C Michael Parenton started his 23rd consecutive game, while Andrew Nierman made his 21th consecutive start; senior DE Reggie Scott's streak of consecutive starts ended at 20, due to injury.
- Tulane has not been shutout in a game in the last 74 games, a streak dating back to Sept. 28, 2002 at No. 3 Texas (49-0).
- Tulane's captains for the game: senior center Michael Parenton, senior defensive end Reggie Scott, senior quarterback Scott Elliott and junior linebacker Logan Kelley.
- Senior Michael Batiste has caught at least one pass in nine straight games this season, the only wide receiver to do so.
- Logan Kelley recorded his sixth sack of the season, a team-high for the Green Wave.

- Redshirt freshman Joe Kemp suffered a broken left collarbone in the second quarter of play.
- Redshirt freshmen Taylor Echols returned his first collegiate kickoff in the third quarter for 48 yards.
- Alan Mitchell recorded a career-long 28 yard rush in the third quarter to take Tulane to the Houston 5-yard line. The carry marked his second consecutive game with a rush after carrying the ball twice for 13 yards against LSU last week.
- Case Keenum became the first quarterback to throw for over 300 yards against Tulane this season; Trevor Vittatoe of UTEP previously held the record for most yards in the air against Tulane this season with 296.
- The loss in Houston marks the third straight loss in the Cougar's home stadium for Tulane.
- Tulane remains winless on the road this season.
