Saturday's game marked the 32nd meeting between Tulane and Rice on the gridiron. With the loss, the Green Wave are now 14-17-1 all-time against the Owls, including a6-11 mark in Houston.
With the loss, Tulane falls to 3-7 for the second time in the last three years and gives the Green Wave consecutive losses to Rice for the first time since dropping three straight in 1995, 1996 and 2005.
Senior wide receiver Jeremy Williams tied a career-high with 10 catches. His 113 receiving yards led the team as did his two touchdown receptions. For the year, he now has 72 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns. For his career, Williams has 185 receptions for 2,686 yards and 17 touchdowns.
Williams remains fourth in Tulane career history in receiving yards (2,686) and sixth in catches (185), and moves into a tie for seventh in touchdown receptions (17) - where he currently tied with Wil Ursin (1990-93). In the single-season record book, Williams moves into seventh place in catches (72) and ninth place in receiving yards (992).
In addition, Williams returned two kickoffs for 49 yards to give him 162 all-purpose yards on the day. He now has 3,501 all-purpose yards for his career and 1,555 for the year, which ranks 10th and fifth in Tulane career and single-season history, respectively.
It was Williams' second two-touchdown receiving day of the year, and the first since hauling in a pair of scores against McNeese State on Sept. 26, 2009.
Williams also posted his fifth 100-yard receiving day of the season and the ninth of his career. He remains fifth in Tulane career history in 100-yard games, three behind Roydell Williams (2000-04) and Adrian Burnette (1997-2000).
Senior running back André Anderson posted his fourth 100-yard rushing day of the season and the eighth of his career after galloping for 135 yards on 26 carries. He now has 1,906 rushing yards for his career and 913 for the year.
Anderson remains 11th in Tulane career history in rushing yards (1,906) and moves into eighth place in the single-season charts (913), just two behind seventh-placed Mewelde Moore (915 in 2003). In addition, Anderson moves into sole possession of fourth place in Tulane career 100-yard rushing games with eight, breaking a three-way tie with Toney Converse and Jamaican Dartez who had seven from 1997-99 and 1995-98, respectively.
Anderson and Williams posted 100-yard rushing and receiving days, respectively, for the second consecutive game. In last week's overtime win over UTEP, Anderson had 105 yards rushing while Williams had 139 receiving.
With a sack in the third quarter, senior defensive end Logan Kelley now has 13 for his career. He is now tied for sixth in Tulane career history along with Dennis O'Sullivan (1995-98) and Jay Rink (1988-90).
A quartet of Tulane players extended their double-digit starting streaks - junior OT Pete Hendrickson and senior DE Adam Kwentua with 20 straight each, junior WR Casey Robottom at 16 and senior WLB Travis Burks at 12.
Sophomore Taylor Echols earned his first career start, lining up at cornerback against the Owls, as did redshirt freshman Darryl Farley. Farley lined up at middle linebacker, becoming the eighth freshman to start a game for Tulane in 2009, joining true freshmen D.J Banks (WR), Jordan Garrett (DB), Hunter Howden (OL), Zach Morgan (OL), Austen Jacks (LB) and Shakiel Smith (LB), and redshirt-freshman Ryan Griffin (QB).
Tulane captains for Saturday's ballgame were senior RB André Anderson, senior LB David Kirksey, senior OT Nick Landry and senior DE Logan Kelley.
