Kevin Sims Named 2010 Cousy Award Candidate

NEW ORLEANS - Kevin Sims of the Tulane men's basketball team has been named as one of 49 NCAA Division I candidates for the 2010 Bob Cousy Award, it was announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Wednesday.
The Cousy Award is given annually to college basketball's top point guard and is presented by The Hartford Financial Services. Nominations were received from Division I, II and III schools from around the nation.
"The Hall of Fame is proud to once again work with Mr. Cousy and The Hartford to present one of college basketball's most coveted awards," said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Basketball Hall of Fame. "This list represents a wide range of college basketball's top players from all divisions and we look forward to honoring the legacy of Mr. Cousy with this year's award winner."
Sims is currently Tulane's second leading scorer this season with 11.8 points per game after the opening eight games. The senior guard leads the team with 24 assists and sits 11th in the nation with his 94.3 free throw percentage.
The Jackson, Miss., native also ranks among the top of many career lists at Tulane. Sims is fourth in assists with 369, third in 3-pointers made with 146, fourth in 3-pointers attempted with 373, seventh in minutes played with 3,272, eighth in free throws made with 349 and 18th in scoring with 1,187 points.
Sims is one of four guards from Conference USA selected to the list, joining East Carolina's Brock Young, UTEP's Julyan Stone and Tulsa's Ben Uzoh.
This original list of candidates will be narrowed down to a final 20 by January 1, a final 10 by February 1, and a final five by March 1. A Hall of Fame appointed screening committee will be narrowing down the candidates from 20 to 10 to 5 prior to the Blue Ribbon Selection Committee evaluating the final five candidates and ultimately choosing the winner. These Hall of Fame committees are made up of top college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, Sports Information Directors and Hall of Famers.

Previous winners of the Cousy Award have included: Jameer Nelson (St. Joseph's), Raymond Felton (North Carolina), Dee Brown (Illinois), Acie Law (Texas A & M), DJ Augustin (Texas) and Ty Lawson (North Carolina).
