NEW ORLEANS- Tulane senior Jonathan Garrett has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week after the righty turned in a career-best performance that led to the Green Wave's Friday night Conference USA series opener victory.
Garrett, a Mandeville, La. native threw a pitching gem in the Friday night opener against Southern Miss, shattering his previous career-high strikeout record of six. He fanned 13 on the night while giving up just five hits over his nine-inning outing to hold opposing batters to a .161 average. The team's captain issued just one base on balls to help Tulane pick up the win while improving his record to 5-1.
Garrett and the Green Wave will look to keep up their winning ways Wednesday as they play take on cross-town rival UNO at Privateer Park. First pitch is set for 6:30PM.
