NEW ORLEANS - After falling on the road at Nicholls State on Friday, the Tulane men's basketball team looks to get back on track Tuesday when Alabama State visits Fogelman Arena at 7 p.m. CST to open a two-game home stand for the Green Wave.
Tulane (3-2) saw a two-game winning streak come to an end on Friday, falling 66-52, at Nicholls State. Kendall Timmons led the Wave with 14 points and Kris Richard added 12, but the Colonels shot 50.0 percent from the floor and held the Green Wave to just 35.4 percent shooting to pull out the victory.
"We did not play with that maturity we needed to win a basketball game on the road," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "We did not execute on the offensive end, but our guys came to practice the next day and realized that we can't play that way. We've had some good practices and I've seen improvement. Hopefully we will get a chance to show that against Alabama State."
Alabama State (1-5) has dropped two straight games and Tuesday's stop at Fogelman is the third game of a five-game road swing. The Hornets' lone victory of the young season came against Kennesaw State, 74-59, in ASU's only home game of the season.
"They have a lot of new face and I would expect them to gain confidence with each game," Conroy added. "They run good stuff and it will be a challenge for our guys. Can we now take lessons we've learned and be a good basketball team."
Junior guard Kendrick Washington leads ASU with 9.7 points per game, while junior forward Ivory White adds 7.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. The Hornets as a team average 54.4 points per game and give up 72.4.
Richard, a senior guard, leads the Green Wave with 17.0 points per game, while Timmons, a sophomore guard, posts 14.6 points and a team-high 8.8 rebounds a contest. Sophomore point guard Jordan Callahan is also posting double figures with 11.4 points per game.
Tulane is scoring 72.8 points and allowing 55.6 per outing.
This will be the fifth meeting between the two programs. Tulane won the previous four meetings, including an 82-55 victory a year ago in Fogelman Arena.
Tulane hosts UL-Lafayette at 2 p.m. CST on Saturday to complete the mini home stand.
