NEW ORLEANS - After completing a 4-2 month of November, the Tulane men's basketball team heads into December looking to continue its early season success. The Green Wave get the month going Saturday when Louisiana-Lafayette makes the trip down I-10 for a 2 p.m. CST game in Fogelman Arena.
Tulane (4-2) is a perfect 3-0 at home this season and is coming off an 84-69 victory over Alabama State on Tuesday night. Five players scored in double figures in the victory led by Aaron Holmes' career-high 19 points. David Booker added 15 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
ULL (1-5) has lost its last four games, including a 69-66 loss at McNeese State on Wednesday. The Ragin' Cajuns complete a three-game road trip against the Green Wave.
"I've known coach (Bob) Marlin for a long time and he is going to do great things with that program," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "They have played a really tough schedule and I'm very impressed with them on film. They have been in a lot of games that could have gone either way. We will have a great challenge on our hands and we will have to play our best game of the year."
This will be the 24th meeting between the two schools. Tulane holds a 21-2 series advantage, including 11 straight wins. The Green Wave also holds a 17-1 record over ULL in New Orleans. Tulane won last year's meeting, 73-70, in Lafayette to extend the winning streak. The Ragin' Cajuns have not defeated Tulane since a 41-28 decision on Dec. 17, 1935 in New Orleans.
Senior guard Kris Richard leads Tulane with 16.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while sophomore forward Kendall Timmons is posting 14.2 points and 7.8 boards per contest. As a team, the Green Wave are shooting 45.2 percent from the floor, scoring 74.7 points per game and holding opponents to just 57.8 points.
Junior guard Josh Brown leads four ULL players in double figures scoring with 13.5 points. He also grabs 6.2 rebounds per game, while senior forward Travis Bureau scores 12.8 points and pulls down 7.2 rebounds per outing. The Ragin' Cajuns are shooting 42.3 percent from the floor and scoring 68.5 points per game.
ULL's lone win of the season came at home against Louisiana College, 91-66, back on Nov. 15.
Tulane will take a 10 break for final exams before returning to the court on Dec. 14 to face New Orleans at Lakefront Arena.
