NEW ORLEANS - Kendall Timmons' and Aaron Holmes' career nights led the Tulane men's basketball team to its seventh straight home victory, 93-77, over Lamar on Thursday in Fogelman Arena.
Timmons poured in a career-high 33 points to go with a career-best 19 rebounds, while Holmes added a career-high 25 points to lead Tulane (9-3) in the come-from-behind win. Timmons' 33 points was the most by a Green Wave player since David Gomez posted 32 points against New Orleans on Jan. 1, 2007 in Lakefront Arena.
Lamar (5-7) scored the first seven points of the game and led the entire first half, holding a 42-40 lead at the break.
Holmes knocked down a 3-pointer to open the scoring in the second half to give the Green Wave its first lead of the game. The lead would be shorted lived as Lamar's Kendrick Harris hit a jump shot seconds later. The lead changed hands two more times before Tulane regained control after a 3-pointer by David Booker with 10:25 left in the game. That shot gave the Green Wave a 60-59 lead.
Tulane built a double digit lead, 75-65, over the next five minutes and led by as many as 17 with 1:18 remaining in the game.
"We are a team that nothing is going to come easy for us," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "That is why I've said before how important the fans are to us and Fogelman and how every possession matters. Tonight was a perfect example of that in how we could not knock down the shots in the first half, but we were resilient tonight and we really came out in the second half and executed at a high level."
All five starters scored in double figures for the Green Wave. In addition to Timmons and Holmes, Kris Richard had 11 points and Booker and Jordan Callahan added 10 points each.
Richard collected 10 rebounds for his double double to join Timmons. The duo combined for 29 of Tulane's 51 rebounds, while Holmes added seven boards. Lamar grabbed 41 rebounds as a team.
Tulane shot 46.2 percent from the floor, including hitting 52.9 percent in the second half. Lamar was held to just 37.8 percent from the floor. The Green Wave also knocked down 27 of 37 free throw attempts and dished out 16 assists.
"Anybody in the arena tonight saw the intensity of both teams," Conroy said. "I felt the intensity tonight will be just like a league game and what we will see in January. There was no question Lamar came out and played extremely hard."
Mike James led Lamar with 16 points off the bench, while Harris added 15 and Brandon Davis had 12 and Orlando Brazier chipped in with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The win improved the Green Wave to 6-0 at home this season and increased the home court winning streak to seven games.
Tulane will complete the non-conference schedule on Sunday at 5 p.m. CST when they host Texas-Pan American in Fogelman Arena.
