On the team hitting 38 percent of its shots in the win
"It's funny how things go sometimes. We shot so well in our last two practices here and obviously shot the ball well against SMU. Then we come in here and had so many shots just rim out. They were in and then out, especially the 3-pointers. It was a hard-fought victory. The rebounding at the end was really a problem and we had a difficult time securing them."
On the 13-point, eight-rebound effort by Brett Benzio
"Brett looked like Brett today for the first time in quite a few weeks, and that's something we really need. That presence inside. She had eight rebounds and had her hands on about four more that she just needs to keep and secure. That made a big difference for us today."
On the performance of the Green Wave defense
"I think the one thing about our game is that we have to be aggressive, not just in our press but also in the quarter-court offense. We've got to be all over it. We came up with some big steals when they were trying to isolate us and that certainly helped get the lead for us."
On not really having one player stand out above the others
"I think that's what we are and that's a good thing. This is who we are. If we can just get over that hump offensively. We took some bad shots and we took some good shots, but they just wouldn't fall. The nice thing is we got the free throws to fall at the end. We missed that one little patch, but at the end we finished them and that was key."
On the performance of junior point guard Roshaunda Barnes
"Roshaunda does such a good job of controlling the tempo of the game. At the end, she really pushed it a little bit, brought it back out and made some good decisions. When I look at her stats, that's a good night for your point guard, especially when she plays as much as she does."
On Saturday's matchup at East Carolina
"They're a good team. This is one of those games you sort of circle on the schedule as being a key game. They play very well at home. We just told the team that if they want to compete for a championship, this is one that you need to try to take. Hopefully, we'll be ready to play."
