ORLANDO, Fla. - The Tulane men's basketball team's two-game road trip concludes Saturday when the Green Wave visit UCF at 3 p.m. CST in UCF Arena for a nationally televised game on CBS College Sports.
The game can also be heard on the Tulane Sports Marketing Radio Network on WIST 690 AM in the New Orleans area.
Tulane (7-16, 2-8 C-USA) is coming off a 71-68 loss at East Carolina Wednesday night. That game was played without the Green Wave's two top scorers in Kris Richard and Kevin Sims, but four players did reach double figures in points with Kendall Timmons posting a team-high 16. Aaron Holmes added 15 points, while David Booker had 12 and Asim McQueen chipped in with 10.
UCF (11-12, 3-6 C-USA) is coming off a 76-70 loss at Memphis on Wednesday and has dropped four of the last five games, including home losses to UTEP and Tulsa.
"UCF is playing well even though they lost their last game at Memphis," Tulane head coach Dave Dickerson said. "They played well for 40 minutes and played with a lot of intensity. We suffered a tough loss at East Carolina without our top two scorers."
The Knight average 66.3 points as a team and are led by A.J. Tyler with 10.4 points per game. He is the lone UCF player to average in double figures.
Tulane posts 63.2 points per game and Richard and Sims are both averaging in double figures. Richard, who missed the last game, is scoring 13.2 points per game, while Sims, who has been out since Jan.9, is scoring 12.3 points per contest. The status of both is questionable for Saturday's game.
Booker is the Green Wave's leading rebounder with 4.4 boards per game to go with 7.7 points an outing. Timmons, who has scored in double figures in five the last six games, is averaging 11.9 points in his seven starts this season.
"This is going to be a very interesting game," Dickerson added. "Over the five years I've been here UCF has been one of the toughest teams to beat in the conference for us because of their intensity on both the offensive and defensive ends. We have to do a good job bouncing back from the East Carolina game. We have to play with intensity and alertness for 40 minutes. If we can do those things then we can give ourselves a chance to be there at the end."
This will be the just the seventh meeting between the two schools. UCF holds a 4-2 series lead and has won three of the four Conference USA meetings since the Knights joined prior to the 2005-06 season. This will only be the third trip to UCF Arena for the Green Wave. Both previous contests were won by UCF, including an 80-63 victory on Feb. 27, 2008. Last season it took overtime for the Knights to get past Tulane, 79-74, on Jan. 31 in Fogelman Arena.
This game marks the first of three straight televised games for Tulane. CBS College Sports' Tom Hart and Steve Lappas will call the game Saturday, while CSS will carry Wednesday's home game against Memphis live at 6 p.m. CST and next Saturday's Marshall game in Fogelman Arena will be aired lived by Cox Sports Television at 7 p.m. CST.
Tickets for those next two home games and the season's final home game against Houston on Feb. 6 are available at the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office or by calling (504) 861-WAVE.
