NEW ORLEANS - Kendall Timmons, a redshirt freshman guard for the Tulane men's basketball team, was named to the 2009-10 Conference USA All-Freshman team, it was announced by the conference on Tuesday morning.
The honor for Timmons is Tulane's first since Kevin Sims was named to the All-Freshman team in 2007. Timmons is the fifth Green Wave player to earn this honor, joining Taylor Rochestie (2005), Byron Mouton (1998) and Dylan Oscean (1997) in addition to Sims.
In his first full season for the Green Wave, Timmons led Tulane with 12.2 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in Conference USA games and posted 8.4 points and 4.0 rebounds per game overall. His 12.2 points per game in the league were the second most by a freshman.
Last year as a true freshman, Timmons, played in the first eight games for the Green Wave before suffering a season ending back injury, forcing him to take a redshirt.
Timmons played in all 29 games this season for Tulane and has started 12 games. His 12 starts all came in conference contests and he reach double figures in scoring in 10 of those starts, including a career-high 23 points against Memphis on Feb. 17.
The Fort Worth, Texas, native has averaged 12.7 points per game in his starts and enters this week's C-USA Tournament riding a streak on nine straight games with at least 10 points.
Timmons capped the regular season by helping the Green Wave defeat Houston, 79-76, with 13 points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
Tulane and Timmons open the 2010 GMC Sierra Conference USA Championship on Wednesday against Southern Miss at 2:30 p.m. CST in the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Joining Timmons on the 2010 C-USA All-Freshman team are UCF's Keith Clanton and Marcus Jordan, Rice's Arsalan Kazemi and the 2010 Freshman of the Year Hassan Whiteside from Marshall.
