NEW ORELANS - Trying to snap a season-high two-game losing streak, the Tulane men's basketball team returns to Fogelman Arena on Saturday to host Tulsa in a Conference USA match-up at 2 p.m. CST.
The game, sponsored by Academy Sports and Outdoors, will be broadcast live on Cox Sports Television and can also be heard on the Tulane Sports Network (AM 690/104.9 FM in New Orleans).
The Green Wave (12-5, 2-2 C-USA) has dropped two straight games, including a 76-67 loss at East Carolina a week ago.
Tulsa (9-9, 2-2 C-USA) has lost two of its last three games and is 0-5 on the road this season. The Hurricane fell at Houston, 64-57, on Wednesday night.
Kendall Timmons, a sophomore forward, leads Tulane with 17.4 points and 8.8 rebounds per game and has scored in double figures in 16 straight games, including posting 10 at ECU last Saturday. Sophomore guard Jordan Callahan is posting 13.4 points and 3.9 assists per game, while senior guard Kris Richard is pouring in 13.2 points and grabbing 6.3 boards per contest.
Tulsa brings a big line-up into Fogelman Arena with 6-9 junior D.J. Magley and 6-11 junior Steven Idlet. Idlet is the Hurricane second leading scorer with 13.8 points per game. Senior guard Justin Hurtt is posting 20.8 points per outing to lead Tulsa.
"Everybody in the league is bigger than us and that is why our guys are getting better," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "There is a certain way we need to play and big part of that is playing smart and playing together. We have to try to control the game on both ends of the floor."
Despite being undersized in the first four conference games, Tulane has outrebounded opponents in two of the games.
"Our guys are doing a good job of boxing out and working hard on the boards," Conroy added.
The Green Wave is averaging 74.4 points per game this season and allowing 64.4, while the Hurricane scores 71.9 and allows 69.3. Both teams shoot slightly over 44 percent from the floor.
This will be the 10th meeting between the two schools. Tulsa owns a 5-4 series lead, including a 73-59, victory last season in Oklahoma. Tulane owns a 2-1 series lead in games played in New Orleans.
The official celebration of the first 100 seasons of Tulane basketball continues on Saturday with the announcement of the All-Decade team of the 60's. Tulane will honor the decade by recognizing the top five players from 1960-69 during halftime of the game. The players were decided by a fan vote at www.tulanegreenwave.com/100years.
In addition to honoring the players from the 60's, the first 100 fans to arrive at Fogelman Area will receive a commemorative pint glass highlighting the era. The glass is the third of eight collectable glasses handed out at the remaining home games this season to commemorate the first 100 seasons.
The Green Wave take a two-game C-USA road swing next week when they visit UTEP on Wednesday at 8 p.m. CST and Southern Miss on Saturday at 4 p.m. CST.
