"I didn't like where we were offensively in the first half, but defensively we did some really good things in both halves," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "We need to be sharper on the offensive end. It is about improving as a team. We've got a lot of young guys out there and we don't look as sharp as we need to at times, but games like this help prepare us."
Alcorn State (1-3) lost for the third straight time on the road and where led by JaMichael Hawkins with 12 points, the lone player in double figures.
The Braves did show a quick spark out of the gate by scoring the first three points of the game, but Tulane rattled off the next 16 over an eight minute stretch and Alcorn State never got closer than 10 the rest of the way.
Davis scored 10 of the 16 points during the run, including a pair of 3-pointers.
Alcorn State cut the deficit to 10 two times in the first half, including 25-15 with 3:51 remaining, but Tulane closed the half with an 8-3 run to hold a 33-18 lead at the break.
The Braves then managed only four points over the first 10 minutes of the second half and the Green Wave built a 33-point lead, 55-22, with 10:53 remaining. 44 was the largest lead of the game coming with inside a minute to play, 83-39.
The Green Wave shot 52.9 percent from the floor, including hitting 16 of 27 shots in the second half. Tulane also knocked down 22 of 28 shots from the free throw line and hit seven of 11 3-pointers.
Tulane's defense held ASU to just 28.0 percent from the floor, including 23.8 percent in the opening half. Alcorn State also hit just three of 19 3-pointers and committed 20 turnovers. The Green Wave collected nine steals and turned those turnovers into 22 points.
