Head Coach Lisa Stockton
Overall thoughts on the game
"They gave us some challenges because their offense is really tough to defend. That was my concern going into this, that it's such a quick turnaround with that kind of motion offense. I thought our kids did a great job. We didn't shoot well, but defensively, I thought we did a great job."
On Tulane connecting on 34.0 percent of its field goals
"I thought we had a lot of shots and just didn't put them in. We got some off of our defense. When they had turnovers, we could get some easy shots off of that. We missed a layup and we missed stuff like that. This is two games in a row where I thought we had some shots that we need to make."
On the performance of freshman Adesuwa Ebomwonyi
"She is such a special player because she can score in broken plays and broken situations. She gets rebounds and puts them in, she scores on the break and on put-backs. She has so many ways that she can score and she hit a 3 tonight. I feel like she is a key for our success."
On Brett Benzio scoring all eight of her points in the second half and leading the team with nine rebounds
"I still think Brett can give us more points and that's what we're depending on her for this year, but we always count on her for her rebounding. She pulled down some huge rebounds off their misses in those last four minutes."
On the team's defensive effort against Idaho State
"I think they're a great offensive team. What you saw today is we played pretty fatigued but it didn't affect us on defense. I think fatigue probably bothered our offense more than or defense. We played tough defensively. We really tried to limit their second-chance opportunities. In those last five minutes, it was really a defensive battle."
On Tulane not scoring a field goal over the final six-plus minutes
"We had a seven-point lead down the stretch and we felt that we could be more patient on offense while the defense had to hold. That was our goal there. We didn't want quick shots unless they were layups. We had such a tough opponent yesterday that when it came down to those last four minutes it was really a gut check. We had to really step up and play."
On the Green Wave's experience at the Cancun Challenge
"Every experience that this team has is going to make us better. I've learned more about them and what we can do in what situations. We played two teams that were very different from each other and that's going to make us better. The more we expose this young team too, the better we can be. Sometimes it's nice when the games are close and you can pull them out. They've enjoyed the tournament and now they can relax and have some fun."
Freshman Forward Adesuwa Ebomwonyi
On her performance against Idaho State
"I felt like the team came out focused and ready to play. I was just playing, being aggressive and moving without the ball. Coach just said to come out with energy, do what I do, rebound and everything will come."
On Tulane's defensive effort vs. the Bengals
"Idaho State is really good offensively. They screen a lot and we had to move without the ball. Our defense was really good and it really helped. When our offense wasn't doing so well, our defense really brought us back in."
On her experience at the Cancun Challenge
"I feel privileged to be here. I've had so much fun here so far. Apart from basketball, the hotel is nice, the hotel is nice, and now I'm ready for our day off."
