NEW ORLEANS - After nearly averaging a double-double during the Green Wave's 2-1 week, Tulane University women's basketball standout Adesuwa Ebomwonyi was named Conference USA Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
For the week, Ebomwonyi averaged 10.3 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game, and connected on 48.0 percent of her shots from the field (12-of-25). The weekly honor is the first of Ebomwonyi's career and marks the second consecutive week that a Green Wave player claimed C-USA Freshman of the Week recognition as Danielle Blagg did so on Nov. 21.
On Monday against the University of New Orleans, Ebomwonyi had seven points and tallied career-best marks of 11 rebounds and three assists in the Green Wave's 86-39 victory. Three days later, she posted a team-leading 10 rebounds to go with nine points, a block and a steal in a 61-48 loss to No. 15 Purdue in day one of the Cancun Challenge. On Friday, Ebomwonyi scored a career-high 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field to go along with six rebounds and one assist in the Wave's 45-37 win over Idaho State at the Moon Palace Resort.
For the season, Ebomwonyi leads the team in offensive rebounds (30) while ranking second in rebounds (50) and rebounds per game (8.3), third in free throws made (11) and free throw percentage (.688), tied for third in blocks (3), fourth in field goals (17) and field goal percentage (.436), fifth in points (46) and points per game (7.7), and tied for fifth in assists (5).
Ebomwonyi and the Green Wave return to action on Friday, Dec. 2, when they travel to Ruston, La., to take on Louisiana Tech. Tipoff for that game is slated for 7 p.m. Tulane's game against the Lady Techsters is the first of three consecutive road games as the Wave will play at Mississippi State on Dec. 4 and at North Texas on Dec. 9 before returning to Fogelman Arena on Sunday, Dec. 11, when the Green Wave play host to Southern at 2 p.m.
For tickets to that game and future Green Wave home events, contact the Tulane Athletics Ticket Office either in person, over the phone at 504-861-WAVE (9283) or via the Internet at www.TulaneGreenWave.com.
