NEW ORLEANS - Ricky Tarrant, a guard for the Tulane men's basketball team, was named the Conference USA Player and Freshman of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Monday.
The awards are voted on by a media panel representing the 12 member schools.
Tarrant is the first player in C-USA history to sweep each honor. The Freshman of the Week award was added in 2008.
The Pleasant Grove, Ala., native averaged 17 points and six rebounds in a pair of Tulane wins as the Green Wave improved to 9-0 to start the season. Tarrant scored a game-high 24 points in Saturday's thrilling 57-52 victory over Georgia Tech, including six 3-pointers in the first half. He knocked down five straight in a three-minute span to give Tulane a nine-point lead in the opening half and finished with 20 first-half points. On Tuesday Tarrant added 10 points and five rebounds in 23 minutes in a victory over Southern.
