STARKVILLE, Miss. - Tulane's men's tennis team was unable to crack a tough Mississippi State team on Saturday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the Bulldogs at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
"Our guys competed hard today, but came up short," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "Mississippi State was just too much for us. They came out firing on all cylinders and really played exceptionally well. We will rebound and get ready for next weekend's match."
MSU (2-3) got things started with a sweep in doubles, but the Tulane (4-2) pair of Radu Ionescu and Idan Mark gave the Bulldogs' 54th-ranked due of George Coupland and Artem Ilyushin all they could handle before falling, 8-6, on court one.
The Bulldogs took all six singles matches in straight sets. But Mark and Rodrigo Rappaccioli both took their opponents into a tie breaker before dropping the second set. Mark fell to Coupland, 6-3, 7-6 (10-4), on court one, while Rappaccioli lost to Zach White, 6-4, 7-6 (10-7), on court six.
The match was secured by MSU with the singles win on court four by James Chaudry over Shaye Wali, 6-3, 6-2.
Tulane will host Jackson State at 1 p.m. CST on Sunday at the Goldring Tennis Center.
