TULSA, Okla. - Rodrigo Rappaccioli was the lone bright spot for the Tulane men's tennis team after earning the Green Wave's lone point in a 6-1 Conference USA dual match loss to No. 27 Tulsa on Saturday afternoon at the Case Tennis Center.
Tulane (6-9, 0-5 C-USA) hung with the Golden Hurricane (14-4, 5-0 C-USA) during doubles, but could not earn the point, falling on courts one and two. The duo of Shaye Wali and Rappaccioli won, 8-5, on court three, but Idan Mark and Joe Young saw their four-match win streak end, falling 8-6 on court one to the No. 20 doubles team in the nation.
"We got a great start in doubles with a good opportunity to win the point, but we didn't execute on two key points and in the drop of a hat we lost the doubles point," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "The guys went from an emotional high point to an emotional low and took the wind out of our sails a bit and we didn't recover as quickly as we should have in the singles. Tulsa came out quick and we were fighting to get back to even the whole time."
Tulane's lone bright spot in singles came when Rappaccioli defeated Tulsa's Grant Ive, 0-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7), on court five.
"Hats off to Rodrigo who was down a set and a break 4-1 and came back to win his singles," Booras added. "He showed a lot of fight and belief to come back against a very tough opponent."
The Green Wave remains in Tulsa to face Oral Roberts at 11 a.m. Sunday at TU's Case Tennis Center.
