Women's Tennis Closes Out Regular Season with South Alabama

New Orleans - The Tulane women's tennis team will look to continue its winning ways this Sunday when the Green Wave closes out the 2010-11 regular season against the South Alabama Jaguars at the Goldring Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. and admission is free.
Sunday's match is the third of a three-match home stand for the Wave and Tulane is 2-0 in its last two outings and has won three straight contests on its home court. In fact, TU has not lost at home in nearly a month. The Wave's last defeat at home was a narrow, 4-3, loss to Iowa on March 18.
The Green Wave brings an overall record of 10-10 on the year, 2-1 in conference play, into the match and is fresh off a 5-2 win over Conference USA rival Southern Miss this past Thursday. Tulane began its current home stand with a 5-2 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette on April 9.
As a team, Tulane is 126-89 in singles action and 59-43 in doubles play, including marks of 68-51 and 27-26 in singles and doubles during dual-match action, respectively. Junior Mariam Kurdadze and sophomore Emma Levy have each posted 20 singles victories this season. The Green Wave pair is two of six players to feature double-digit singles wins on the year as junior Lindsay Dvorak is 18-11 and sophomore Hila Elster is 18-13 while Emma Helistén has 10 victories and Elizabeth Hamlin has 10.
In doubles play, the tandem of Kurdadze and Levy lead the Wave with a 20-12 overall mark and is tops on the team with nine dual-match wins. Elster and Hamlin, meanwhile, are 16-9 overall.
South Alabama (1-11) is closing out its regular season with a pair of matches in the Crescent City. The Jaguars will face Xavier (La.) on Saturday before heading to Uptown for Sunday's match.
South Alabama has dropped its last eight matches since producing the lone of the season against Austin-Peay on March. 11.
USA is 18-71 overall and has a dual mark of 12-60 in singles play this season. Alina Volman paces the team with an 8-11 overall record and has a dual mark of 4-8.
In doubles action, the Jaguars have posted a 14-29 overall mark this season, including a dual record of 11-25. The doubles tandem of Jess Courtnell and Chane Hines has a 4-3 mark, both overall and in dual play.
Following today's match, the Green Wave opens play in the 2011 C-USA Women's Tennis Championship in Orlando, Fla. The seeds and tournament bracket will be announced early next week and the winner of the four-day event will receive the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
