
Three Green Wave Golfers Named to All-Louisiana First Team

New Orleans - Three Tulane University golfers have been named to the All-Louisiana Golf First Team, including senior Janine Fellows, junior Ashley McKenney and sophomore Maribel Lopez Porras, and junior Meghan Chapman has been named the Louisiana Newcomer of the Year by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.
Fellows, who hails from Houston, Texas, is a two-time All-Louisiana first team selection and she was also a repeat performer to the All-Conference USA first team. This season, Fellows played 27 rounds in nine tournaments and sported the second-best stroke average on the team with a 74.78. She was a two-time C-USA Golfer of the Week and ranked as high as 27th nationally. Fellows chalked up eight rounds of par or better, including a season-low 5-under 67 and posted a runner-up finish and one other top-10 effort while finishing in the top-20 five times. Her 5-under 67 tied the school record for the lowest single round score.
A native of Scottsdale, Ariz., McKenney is a first time selection to the All-Louisiana team and was named to the All-Conference USA second team. This season, she played 27 rounds in nine tournaments and ranked fourth on the team with a 75.19 stroke average. She set the school record for the lowest 54-hole total with a 7-under 209 at the UCF Challenge and finished par or better on eight occasions, including a 4-under 68. McKenney, who was named the C-USA Golfer of the Week this spring, posted three top-10 finishes, including one third place effort, and finished inside the top-20 one other time.
Porras is another first time selection to the All-Louisiana team. The Bogota, Colombia, native was named the 2011 Conference USA Golfer of the Year, was an All C-USA first team performer , a C-USA All-Tournament Team selection, a C-USA Golfer of the Week in early March and was an All-Region selection by the National Golf Coaches Association. She was Tulane's top golfer who played all 30 rounds in nine tournaments and led the squad with a 73.85 stroke average.
Porras produced 12 rounds of par or better, including a season-low 3-under 69, and tallied four top-10 finishes, including three fifth place showings, and had three other finishes inside the top-20. She ranked as high as 18th the nation and became the first Green Wave golfer in school history to qualify as an individual for the NCAA Championships.
In her first season in the Olive & Blue, Chapman was also named the C-USA Newcomer of the Year and was tabbed to the C-USA All-Tournament team. She played 24 rounds in eight tournaments and posted a 76.75 scoring average. Chapman, who hails from Seminole, Fla., finished third at the Conference USA Championships and posted one other top-20 finish. She recorded two rounds of par or better, including a season-low 2-under 70.
