Men's Basketball Hosts Wake Forest on Monday
Nov 16, 2014 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - With the exhibition game in the books, the 2014-15 Tulane men's basketball team is ready to officially open the season on Monday when Wake Forest visits Devlin Fieldhouse for a 7 p.m. CT tip that will be aired live on ESPN3.
The Green Wave (0-0) defeated cross-campus foe Loyola, 87-43, on Wednesday night in the exhibition game. Five players scored in double figures led by junior Louis Dabney's 15 and sophomore Kajon Mack's 14. Wake Forest (1-0) is coming off a season-opening, 80-69, win at home over UNC Ashville on Friday night."I'm excited," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "This is a great challenge and opportunity for our guys right off the bat with a marquee program from the ACC in Wake Forest coming to campus. It brings a great focus to the start of the season and certainly helps us with our preparation. We have so many new faces and a new look to our team that we are trying to get our team ready as opposed to worry so much about what our competitor is doing."
Tulane is coming off a 17-17 season in 2013-14 that saw the squad earn a second straight post-season berth with an appearance in the CBI. Wake Forest posted a 17-16 record last season and went 6-12 in the ACC. The Demon Deacons now have Danny Manning to lead the helm in his first season at Wake. Manning spent the last two seasons at Tulsa.
"We have a lot of respect for coach Manning and how he coaches his team," Conroy added. "We played Wake Forest and we also played Tulsa, coached by Danny Manning, twice. It is fresh in our minds of what kind of personnel they have and also how coach Manning would like to coach his team."
This will be the sixth meeting between Tulane and Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons have won the first five meetings, including a 72-57 victory on Dec. 4, 2013 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The game can be seen live on ESPN3 by clicking here and can also be heard live on the Tulane IMG Sports Network (106.1 FM locally in the New Orleans area).
Monday's opener has been dubbed a 'White Out' so Tulane is encouraging all fans to wear their best white Green Wave gear. However, in case you're in short supply, the first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive free t-shirts. The game is part of the Tulane University Student-Athlete Advisory Council's (SAAC) annual food drive. SAAC is asking for food or cash donations to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana.
Season ticket prices for Tulane's inaugural season in The American are $300 for premium chairback seating, $200 for bleacher seating, and $400 for the family zone (2 adult/2 youth for both men's and women's basketball seasons). In addition, men's basketball season ticket holders will have the exclusive opportunity to purchase half-priced women's season tickets.
For additional information, call the Tulane Ticket Office at (504) 861-WAVE (9283), reserve your seats on-line at www.TulaneGreenWave.com, or visit the Tulane Team Shop in person on the ground floor of the James W. Wilson, Jr. Center Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tulane will continue its season-opening six-game homestand on Thursday when the Green Wave host Mississippi Valley State in Devlin Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. CT. Thursday's game will also be aired live on ESPN3.
