NEW ORLEANS - Tulane men's basketball head coach Ed Conroy announced the signing of Taron Oliver to a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period on Monday.
Oliver, from Washington, D.C., is 6-9 and 240 pounds that played his junior season last year at Riverdale Baptist and helped coach Lou Wilson and the Crusaders claim the Maryland Private School state championship. Oliver will play for Bryan Bartley at Montrose Christian School in Rockville, Maryland, this season.
"We are thrilled about the scoring, skill and versatility Taron can bring to our program," Conroy said. "He is a very talented offensive front court player that can score around the basket in a variety of ways, but he also has the ability make plays on the perimeter facing the basket."
Oliver is ranked by ESPN as the No. 1 recruit in Washington D.C., and was given three stars by ESPN and is rated as a top 50 big man in America. He played AAU basketball with the prestigious Nike Team Takeover program and also participated in the Ty Lawson and Victor Olapido All-American camps this past summer.
"We like that Taron has competed and succeeded against the best High School and AAU competition," Conroy added. "He is eager to begin his development at Tulane University and compete in one of the top basketball conferences in college basketball."
