Kolby Morgan Earns Second Straight FOTW Honor
Nov 24, 2014 | Women's Basketball
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - For the second consecutive week, the American Athletic Conference has named Tulane University's Kolby Morgan as Freshman of the Week. It marks just the second time in school history that a Green Wave women's basketball player won back-to-back freshman conference honors, with Danielle Blagg last achieving the feat on Jan. 3 and 9 of 2012 in Conference USA.
"It's a tremendous honor for Kolby (Morgan) and for our program to receive a second straight nod for Freshman of the Week," Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton stated. "Kolby has done a tremendous job of contributing on both ends of the floor, getting steals and rebounds but also hitting shots. She has done a good job of really playing within herself."
Last week, Morgan helped Tulane accomplish a 3-0 start to the season after invading Baton Rouge and claiming a 51-45 win over the LSU Tigers. The New Orleans native scored a team high 13 points on 4-of-9 shooting to go along with her three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Morgan also finished 4-of-6 from the free-throw line, including three successful attempts with under 30 seconds remaining and the game still up for grabs.
Thus, the 5'8" guard has now registered double digits in all three games and leads the team in scoring with 13.7 points per game. In addition, Morgan is off to a 16-of-32 start from the field, as her .500 shooting percentage ranks 14th amongst all conference players.
Morgan and the rest of the Green Wave look to remain undefeated tonight at 5 p.m. CT when they host N.C. State (4-0) inside Devlin Fieldhouse. Prices for single game tickets include: $5 bleacher, $10 chairback and $20 courtside. For additional information, call the ticket office at 504-861-WAVE (9283).
