Men's Basketball Hosts Jackson State in Friday Matinee
Dec 18, 2014 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - In a rare weekday matinee, the Tulane men's basketball team will host Jackson State at 1 p.m. CT on Friday for the fourth-annual "Kids Day" at Devlin Fieldhouse.
"Kids Day" is an annual event hosted by the Green Wave men's basketball program to allow area schools and groups to attend a college game. All kids in attendance at Friday's game will receive a free commemorative poster.
"It is always fun to have the kids at the game," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "It makes for a great environment in Devlin and we are looking forward to it."
The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 by clicking here and can also be heard live on the Tulane IMG Sports Network (106.1 FM locally in the New Orleans area).
Tulane (8-1) will look to extend its longest winning streak since the 2011-12 season when it opened the season with nine wins in a row. The Green Wave have won eight straight after Tuesday's, 75-67, victory over visiting Savannah State. Sophomore Payton Henson led the way with a career-high 20 points and a career-best nine rebounds.
Senior Jay Hook leads Tulane into Friday's game with a 12.3 points-per-game average. Junior Louis Dabney is right behind with a 12.1 scoring average, while sophomore Jonathan Stark is posting 11.7 points per outing.
Jackson State (1-9), who plays at home Thursday night against Southern Miss, has lost seven straight games. The Tigers, a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, have played nine of their 10 games away from home so far this season.
"I'm sure Jackson State will come in here expecting to come out with a win, but we have to make sure they don't," Conroy said. "They have played a brutal schedule much like Savannah State and teams like that are not afraid of anybody because they have seen it all."
JSU is led by junior Raeford Worsham's 21.0 points per game average.
This is the fourth meeting between the two schools. Tulane owns a 2-1 record against the Tigers, including a 70-65 win on Dec. 7, 2013 in Devlin Fieldhouse.
Tulane will hit the road for the next four games and will open the trip by traveling across the country to face No. 16 Washington in Seattle on Monday at 10 p.m. CT.
Season ticket prices for Tulane's inaugural season in The American are $300 for premium chairback seating, $200 for bleacher seating, and $400 for the family zone (2 adult/2 youth for both men's and women's basketball seasons). In addition, men's basketball season ticket holders will have the exclusive opportunity to purchase half-priced women's season tickets.
For additional information, call the Tulane Ticket Office at (504) 861-WAVE (9283), reserve your seats on-line at www.TulaneGreenWave.com, or visit the Tulane Team Shop in person on the ground floor of the James W. Wilson, Jr. Center Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
