NEW ORLEANS - After picking up two thrilling wins at the DoubleTree Classic, the (RV) Tulane University women's basketball team (9-1) will conclude its non-conference schedule by hosting its second straight ACC opponent in (RV) Florida State (11-1) Monday evening. With a win, the Green Wave would achieve its second best start under head coach Lisa Stockton. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT, inside Devlin Fieldhouse.
"They're a really good team. They've been to the NCAA Tournament numerous times in a row. They're a team that's going to be up there in the ACC," Stockton stated. "I'm really proud of how this team has performed with this schedule. This is a great opportunity for our team to make a statement on what our program is about."
Fans were treated to back-to-back victories in dramatic fashion this past Thursday and Friday, as Tulane defeated Samford 58-56 before besting Miami 70-65. The Wave are now 4-1 in games decided by single digits.
The Olive and Blue received clutch performances from a variety of players at the DoubleTree Classic. First, it was Danielle Blagg scoring five of the team's last six points in the final minute vs Samford. Then, it was Tiffany Dale, Kolby Morgan, Courtnie Latham, Jamie Kaplan and Leslie Vorpahl all combining to sink 10-of-12 from the free-throw line to close out the game vs. Miami.
On Monday, Tulane's 20th nationally ranked defense will clash with a Florida State offense that ranks 16th in the nation, averaging 81.3 points per game. The Seminoles have scored 90 points or higher five times this season, including its last contest on Dec. 19, in a 97-51 rout of Savannah State.
In addition, expect a battle on the boards between Tulane and FSU as both squads average 40+ rebounds per game. The Seminoles boast a +14.5 rebound margin that currently ranks sixth in the country to go along with their 18 offensive boards per game. Furthermore, when the Wave outrebound their opponent, they are 8-0 on the season.
Adut Bulgak leads the Florida State attack averaging 15.4 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.4 blocks. The 6'4" junior center has achieved seven double doubles on the year.
Tulane will counter with its top two point getters in senior Danielle Blagg and freshman Kolby Morgan, who both were named to the DoubleTree Classic All-Tournament team. Blagg scored a season high 16 points vs Samford, on her way to becoming the 26th Green Wave player to achieve 1,000 career points. Then, Morgan followed with a team high 18 points vs Miami, to go along with her seven rebounds, four assists and four steals.
