Leslie Vorpahl Named LSWA Player of the Week
Dec 29, 2014 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - The Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) just announced that Tulane University women's basketball sophomore guard Leslie Vorpahl, along with Northwestern State's Jalen West, were named co-Louisiana Player of the Week. Vorpahl led the Green Wave to a 60-50 road win at Cincinnati to move to 1-0 in the American Athletic Conference and 10-2 overall.
Vorpahl scored a team high 18 points on a 7-for-12 afternoon from the field. The San Antonio native also tied her career high in four three-point field goals made in a game, as she was the lone player to connect from beyond the arc this past Sunday.
The sophomore helped negate several Cincinnati attempts to reclaim the lead in the second half. Up 38-33, Vorpahl netted a three to extend what would be an eventual 9-0 Tulane run. A few minutes later, only up four (45-41), Vorpahl connected on another three pointer to extend the lead once more. In all, Vorpahl scored 12 of the team's final 19 points.
The American Athletic Conference also acknowledged Vorpahl's performance at Cincinnati with a nod to their weekly honor roll list. The achievement marked the second time this month that the sophomore landed herself on the honor roll.
Vorpahl and the rest of the Green Wave return to action Tuesday night at 7 p.m. CT against Houston, inside Devlin Fieldhouse. You can purchase tickets for the conference matchup at the ticket window on the Freret Street side of Devlin Fieldhouse. Single game prices include: $20 courtside, $10 chairback and $5 bleacher.
