Men's Basketball Set to Make History on Saturday
Dec 5, 2014 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - History will be made on the Tulane University campus this Saturday. For the first time, both a men's basketball game and a football game will be played on campus on the same day when the Green Wave basketball squad gets the festivities underway at 1 p.m. CT when they host Mississippi State in Devlin Fieldhouse.
The football team will then host Temple in the season finale at 6:30 p.m. CT in Yulman Stadium. Fans who present a Tulane-Temple football ticket at the men's basketball game will receive a ticket for just $5 at the door, while all men's basketball ticket holders for the Mississippi State game will receive a free ticket to the football game against Temple. For additional information, call the Tulane Ticket Office at (504) 861-WAVE (9283).
"This is a great opportunity for everybody," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "It is great for our fans. It should be a great day on campus and a lot of fun. Hopefully we can have many more weekends like this in the future."
The basketball game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 by clicking hereZ and can also be heard live on the Tulane IMG Sports Network (106.1 FM locally in the New Orleans area).
Tulane (6-1) is riding a six-game winning streak, the longest since opening the 2011-12 season with nine straight wins, when Southeastern Conference foe Mississippi State (5-1) comes to town. The Green Wave extended the winning streak with a, 83-70, win at Loyola-Chicago on Wednesday night behind 18 points from Tre Drye and 15 points and nine rebounds from Jay Hook.
MSU had a season-opening five-game winning streak snapped last Saturday with a, 61-52, loss to TCU in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Bulldogs have not won a true road game since January of 2013, a span of 17 straight games.
"This is a good challenge for us and is part of the process for where we want to be and to get ready for league play," Conroy added. "Mississippi State is off to a good start to this season so we know it will be a tough task, but one that we will be ready for."
This is the 94th meeting between the two programs in a series that dates back to 1909. MSU owns a 54-39 series lead that includes six straight wins. The two schools played together as members of the SEC from 1932-33 until Tulane departed the league following the 1965-66 season. The schools met 61 times as conference foes and have played four times since, including the last meeting on Dec. 27, 2003 when MSU won, 72-50, in the Sugar Bowl Classic in New Orleans Arena.
Saturday's game begins a three-game homestand for the Green Wave although it will be broken up by a nine-day layoff for final exams. After Saturday's game, Tulane will return to the court on Dec. 16 against Savannah State for a 7 p.m. CT tip.
Season ticket prices for Tulane's inaugural season in The American are $300 for premium chairback seating, $200 for bleacher seating, and $400 for the family zone (2 adult/2 youth for both men's and women's basketball seasons). In addition, men's basketball season ticket holders will have the exclusive opportunity to purchase half-priced women's season tickets.
For additional information, call the Tulane Ticket Office at (504) 861-WAVE (9283), reserve your seats on-line at www.TulaneGreenWave.com, or visit the Tulane Team Shop in person on the ground floor of the James W. Wilson, Jr. Center Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
