Kolby Morgan Earns Third FOTW Honor
Dec 8, 2014 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - The American Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards on Monday morning, and for the first time this season, two Tulane women's basketball players received accolades. Kolby Morgan earned her third Freshman of the Week honor as Leslie Vorpahl landed on the Honor Roll list for the first time.
The duo spearheaded a 77-44 victory at home vs Nicholls State (2-3) and a 74-58 road win at (RV) Arkansas-Little Rock (5-1), handing the Trojans their first loss of the season. In addition, the Wave were the first team to score 60+ points on UALR's top-10 nationally ranked defense.
Morgan became the second Green Wave player ever to earn Freshman of the Week three times, trailing senior Danielle Blagg who achieved the feat four times in Conference USA back in 2011-12.
The New Orleans native led the team in scoring for the fifth time this year with a 15-point performance vs Nicholls State. She then followed that with a 10-point effort at UALR, marking the eighth straight game in double-figures. The freshman continues to put up good shots, recording a 64.2 percent field goal percentage (9-for-14) over the two games.
Meanwhile, Vorpahl recorded her first double-digit scoring game of the season with 11 points vs Nicholls before exploding with 22 points at UALR, tying her career high set back on Nov. 24 of last year at N.C. State. The sophomore also tied her career high in three-pointers made vs the Trojans, converting 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.
Morgan, Vorpahl, and the rest of the Green Wave have a week off from games due to finals, and will return to action when Tulane hosts the DoubleTree Classic Dec. 18-19. The Olive and Blue will clash with Samford on the 18th and Miami on the 19th, with both games tipping off at 7 p.m. CT inside Devlin Fieldhouse.
