Leslie Vorpahl Named LSWA Player of the Week
Dec 8, 2014 | Women's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - The Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) just named Tulane women's basketball sophomore guard Leslie Vorpahl as their Player of the Week. The accolade marks Vorpahl's second award of the day as she was previously named to the American Athletic Conference's Honor Roll list. The San Antonio native played a key role in moving the squad to 7-1 on the year after victories over Nicholls State and Arkansas Little Rock.
"Happy to not only see Leslie's offense break though this past week, but also get recognized by the conference and Louisiana Sports Writers," Tulane head coach Lisa Stockton stated. "She played and shot with such confidence at Little Rock and if we didn't have her, the outcome could have very well been different."
Vorpahl started her week with an 11-point performance vs Nicholls State, marking her first double-digit scoring effort of the season. The sophomore then broke out at Little Rock, tying her career high of 22 points along with grabbing a season high five rebounds.
Also to note, Vorpahl entered Saturday's road contest just 2-of-18 from beyond the arc, but tied her career high of three point field goals made, converting 4-of-6.
Furthermore, with five more assists over the last week, Vorpahl now averages 3.1 assists and a 1.2 assist-to-turnover ratio, ranking 10th and ninth in the conference, respectively.
Vorpahl, and the Green Wave return to action in the DoubleTree Classic Dec. 18-19. The Olive and Blue will clash with Samford on the 18th and Miami on the 19th, with both games tipping off at 7 p.m. CT inside Devlin Fieldhouse. You can purchase either single game or season tickets via calling the Tulane ticket office at 504-861-WAVE (9283), online at tulanegreenwave.com, or in person at the Wilson Athletics Center on Ben Weiner Drive between 9 am - 5 pm.
