T&F Secures Another Transfer in Joubert

NEW ORLEANS - With an already-loaded recruiting class joining the Tulane track and field team for the upcoming season, the Green Wave have secured the talents of javelin star Laruschka Joubert, announced director of track and field Eric Peterson on Tuesday.
Joubert is transferring from Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where she had an outstanding freshman season. The native of South Africa will have three years of eligibility remaining.
"I made a commitment three years ago to continue to develop and grow our team in the javelin," stated Peterson. "Tulane has a history of producing national-level javelin throwers, and we expect to be able to continue that tradition moving forward. Laruschka was one of the top javelin throwers in the nation in Division II, and she comes to us as someone with the ability to place very high at our conference championship, qualify for an NCAA Regional and one day become a national qualifier. We are very excited to be able to add a student-athlete of this caliber this late in the process."
In her one season at Nova Southeastern, the rising sophomore put together an outstanding season for the Sharks, as she posted a personal-best toss of 46.46 meters (152-5) at the prestigious Penn Relays, placing second. At that meet, she was the only Division II athlete to compete in the javelin amongst the nation's best Division I athletes.
Additionally, Joubert qualified and competed for the DII National Championships as a true freshman, posting a 16th-place finish with a mark of 39.83 meters (130-8).
A three-sport athlete at Noordheuwel High School in Kurgersdorp, South Africa, Joubert starred on the track and field, netball and field hockey squads for the Blue Wave. In all five years during her high school career, she set new school records in the javelin while earning Thrower of the Year honors during three years of her high school tenure. She competed in the South African National Championships each of her five years while placing second in the javelin at the South African National Championships as a senior. Joubert was also a big part of the Blue Wave's Conference Championship over the 40 other schools in that division.
"I am beyond ecstatic and motivated to join an institution with the history and track record of Tulane University," stated Joubert. "It is literally a dream come true for me and my family."
Joubert will join Katerina Vodova (Czech Republic), Madeline Held (Hoover, Alabama), Emily-Kathryn Hoey (Diamond Bar, California), Emma Newton (Hollis, New Hampshire), Jackie Esmay (Providence, Rhode Island), Skylin Harbin (Mission Hills, California), Lauren Bartels (San Antonio), Emily Bedell (Birmingham, Alabama), Merritt Miller (Fort Collins, Colorado), Rebecca Blitt (New Providence, New Jersey), Erika Chelales (Indianapolis), Jennifer LaMori (Santa Monica, California), Laura Krasovec (Media, Pennsylvania), Sara Foster (Northborough, Massachusetts) and Nicole Kauffman (Fort Morgan, Colorado) on the women's side. The men's track and field program have added Moses Aloiloi (Republic of Kenya), Chris Lowery (Oklahoma City), Charlie Frishberg (San Diego), Massimo Vancheri (Mandeville, Louisiana) and Dylan Angarella (Los Angeles).
