Men's Basketball Hosts Memphis at the Smoothie King Center
Jan 23, 2015 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - Looking to pull off a feat that has not been accomplished since 1983, the Tulane men's basketball team hosts Memphis on Saturday looking for a season sweep of the Tigers when they square off in an American Athletic Conference game at the Smoothie King Center at 7 p.m. CT.
The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU (Ch. 321 on Cox in New Orleans/Ch. 141 on DISH/Ch. 208 on DIRECTV/Ch. 302 on Charter on the north shore), can be seen on WatchESPN and can also be heard live on the Tulane IMG Sports Network (106.1 FM locally in the New Orleans area).
Single game tickets for the Memphis game are $20 for side court seats and $10 for end zone seats. However, the Flex Plan, beginning at $70, is the most valuable option remaining for the season for basketball fans. The flex plan allows fans the ability to purchase 5 single game tickets to be used in any combination at all remaining home games (with maximum of two for UConn game).
Parking for the public is available in Mercedes-Benz Superdome garages 2 and 5 for $15.
The Green Wave (13-6, 4-3 American) defeated Memphis (11-7, 4-3 American), 74-66, in the FedEx Forum back on Jan. 3 and ended a 22-game losing streak against the Tigers. Tulane has not pulled off the season sweet of Memphis since winning both games during the 1982-83 season.
"Saturday is another great opportunity for our team," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "We are downtown in a great venue and have a chance to get two wins over a marquee program that has had our number for many years. We know that we will have a play great basketball to come away with a win."
Tulane is coming off a, 66-52, loss at home to SMU on Wednesday night despite a combined 30 points from guards Louis Dabney and Jay Hook. Memphis had a three-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday night at Tulsa, 73-55.
Dabney leads the Green Wave with 14.1 points per game, while Hook (11.8 ppg) and Jonathan Stark (11.9 ppg) also post double figures in scoring.
Memphis is led by sophomore forward Austin Nicholls' 12.7 points per game. Nicholls scored a career-high 28 points against the Green Wave in the earlier meeting at Memphis.
The teams both sit in a three-way tie along with Temple for fifth place in the American standings with 11 conference games remaining on the schedule. The top five teams in the league receive a first-round bye in March's conference tournament.
This is the 56th meeting between the two former members of Conference USA and the Metro Conference. Memphis holds a 45-10 advantage in the series that dates back to the 1976-77 season when both schools were members of the Metro. Tulane snapped Memphis' 22-game win streak in the series with the, 74-66, win in Memphis back on Jan. 3.
Tulane returns to Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse to host Tulsa on Tuesday at 6 p.m. CT.
