PROVIDENCE, R.I. - With merely just hours to go before the Tulane women's basketball squad tips off at home against in-state rival LSU, the American Athletic Conference announced its weekly awards as Taylor Emery was named Freshman of the Week. In addition, Kolby Morgan was listed as an Honor Roll recipient as well.
The Green Wave competed in two games last week, defeating Jackson State, 92-49, before nearly pulling off the upset in Tallahassee, falling 78-72, to No. 6/14 Florida State. Against Jackson State, Emery scored a season best 14 points on a team high 7-for-12 from the field. The Parade Magazine All-American then followed that performance with eight points at FSU.
Thus, through three games this season, Emery is shooting an impressive 55.6 percent from the floor, which leads the Wave and ranks 10th in The American. Furthermore, Emery's 2.7 offensive rebounds per game also leads the squad and ranks ninth in the conference.
Morgan got the Honor Roll nod after posting back-to-back 20+ scoring games, including a career high of 26 points at Florida State. The sophomore is currently averaging 19.7 points on the short season and has been on fire from three-point range, leading Tulane with 3.0 three-pointers per game, which also ranks second in The American.
Green Wave fans can catch both Emery and Morgan Monday night at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse at 7 p.m. CT. For ticket information, fans can call (504) 861-WAVE (9283) or visit the ticket office located on the first floor of the James W. Wilson Jr. Center.
