MBB: Green Wave Host Loyola in Exhibition
Nov 4, 2015 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS – The Tulane men's basketball team will host the Loyola Wolf Pack in an exhibition game Thursday night at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse on the Tulane campus. This is the first time the Green Wave's seven newcomers will hit the floor in the Fieldhouse.
The Green Wave return six members of last year's squad, while adding five freshmen and two transfers. Graduate student Jernard Jarreau returns home after spending the last four years at Washington, and redshirt-junior Malik Morgan will be back on the court after sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.
Tulane went 15-16 in 2014-15, finishing seventh in The American with a 6-12 record. The Green Wave return senior Louis Dabney, who is just three points away from the 1,000 career point threshold and was named to the All-American Conference Second Team last season. Dabney averaged 13.6 points a season ago, leading the team in scoring. Also returning for Tulane is starting center Ryan Smith, as well as fellow big man Dylan Osetkowski, who came off the bench adding 6.3 ppg and 4.8 rpg for the Green Wave.
The Green Wave began the 2014-15 season with a 10-3 non-conference run and battle in conference as seven games were decided by five points or less and three went to overtime. This season Tulane will play another challenging lineup, facing a pair of Atlantic Coast Conference opponents as well as seven matchups with 2015 postseason participants.
The squad adds great size and athleticism for the 2015-16 season as Taron Oliver (6-9, 310) and Blake Paul (6-9, 230) give the Green Wave great depth in the post, Melvin Frazier (6-5, 200) adds length and athleticism at the 3-guard spot, and Von Julien and Kain Harris provide versatility and speed in the backcourt.
Following the exhibition against nearby Loyola, the Green Wave will officially begin the 2015-16 season on Friday, Nov. 13, hosting Alabama A&M at 8 p.m. The game can be found on ESPN3.
