NEW ORLEANS -- The Tulane men's basketball team concluded non-conference action, rolling to a 59-40 victory over the Southern Miss at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse Tuesday evening. Redshirt junior Malik Morgan led the way for the Green Wave with 15 points, while Eddie Davis III had 12 points to pace the Golden Eagles.
Tulane (7-6) jumped out to a 7-2 lead to start the game, but Southern Miss (2-8) worked its way back to regain the lead. Seven straight points for the Green Wave got the game back in Tulane's hands, and back-to-back threes from Morgan and senior Louis Dabney positioned the squad to go up by double-figures.
The Green Wave closed out the first half on a 22-5 run to hold a 37-19 lead at the break. Morgan made it a 12-point first half, while Tulane added 16 points from its bench.
Things continued to roll for the Green Wave in the second half as they hit their largest lead of the night at 27 points just inside the 12:30 mark, but followed the hot start with a scoring lull. Both teams combined to make just six field goals for the rest of the way after the under-12 media timeout. The Golden Eagles were able to get the difference back under 20, but could never put together a run to get back into it.
Redshirt sophomore Cameron Reynolds earned his second double-digit scoring game of the year with 10 points, also adding six rebounds. Sophomore Dylan Osetkowski finished with seven points and nine boards, while Dabney added nine points for the Green Wave.
Tulane shut down the Golden Eagles' leading scorer, Khari Price, who finished with just five points despite averaging over 11 per game, and dominated them on the boards, out-rebounding Southern Miss 50-26 in the game.
The Green Wave will return to action as they begin conference play at Memphis on Tuesday, Doc. 29. The game is set to air on ESPNU at noon.
