Men's Basketball Falls to UCF
Feb 19, 2015 | Men's Basketball
NEW ORLEANS - Jonathan Stark's 15 points led four Tulane men's basketball players in double figures, but it wasn't enough as the Green Wave fell to visiting UCF, 69-55, on Thursday night in an American Athletic Conference game.
In addition to Stark's team-high, Jay Hook had 12 points, Dylan Osetkowski chipped in 11 and Tre Drye added 10 points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds for the Green Wave (14-11, 5-8 American) in the loss at Fogleman Arena in Devlin Fieldhouse against the Knights (12-13, 5-9 American).
Tulane jumped out to an early 16-9 lead less than eight minutes into the game, but UCF rattled off eight straight and took an 18-16 lead with 8:21 left in the opening half. That lead was one they would not relinquish. The Knights led, 34-24, at halftime and built as much as a 16-point lead in the second half.
"We knew coming in that UCF was an outstanding three-point shooting team and a very good offensive team and they made the shots tonight," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "I don't think we played particularly well on defense in the first half and that gave them a lot of confidence. We added to that with some careless turnovers and those led to easy baskets."
The Knights connected on 12-of-20 three-pointers in the game and hit 53.3 percent (24-45) shots for the floor. Tulane shot 33.9 percent (21-62) from the floor, hit six-of-19 three-pointers and committed 11 turnovers that led to 17 UCF points.
With the Green Wave's six three-pointers in the game, the fans that were in attendance can take their ticket to a local Papa Johns on Wednesday for a $6 one topping large pizza or go online and use promo code 6for6.
In addition to Stark's 15 points, the sophomore guard dished out seven assists and Hook added seven rebounds to his point total to help Tulane outrebound UCF, 40-30.
UCF was led by Kasey Wilson's 21 points and nine rebounds, while B.J. Taylor had 16 points and Adonys Henriquez added 15 points.
Tulane embarks on a two-game road trip beginning on Sunday at Storrs against UConn at 3 p.m. CT followed by a trip to Tulsa on Feb. 25. The next home game will be Feb. 28 when the Green Wave host Cincinnati.
