Men's Basketball Comes Up Short at UConn
Feb 22, 2015 | Men's Basketball
STORRS, Conn. - Louis Dabney had 19 points and five three-pointers, but the Tulane men's basketball junior guard's efforts were not enough on Sunday afternoon in a, 67-60, loss to UConn in Gampel Pavilion in an American Athletic Conference game.
In addition to Dabney's total, freshman post Dylan Osetkowski added 12 points and six rebounds and senior guard Jay Hook had eight points and eight boards for the Green Wave (14-12, 5-9 American).
UConn (15-11, 8-6 American) jumped out early on Tulane and led until the Green Wave chipped away and took its only lead of the game with 10:01 remaining in the second half. A jumper by sophomore guard Kajon Mack lifted Tulane to a, 46-45, advantage and sophomore guard Jonathan Stark hit a jumper that added to the lead before the Huskies used a 6-0 run to retake the lead, one they wouldn't relinquish.
"I'm really proud of this team," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "They continue to go on the road in tough environments and continue to play the game the right way. We had really good flow on the offensive end, but unfortunately some of our good looks didn't go down, but we did outrebound them again. We were right there today, but credit UConn for making some tremendous plays down the stretch."
Tulane shot 38.0 percent from the floor (19-50) and knocked down 10-of-25 three-pointers, including the five by Dabney and two each from Osetkowski and Hook. The Green Wave outrebounded the Huskies, 33-30.
UConn shot 53.1 percent from the floor (26-49) and connected on five-of-12 three-pointers. The Huskies were led by Amida Brimah's 19 points, while Ryan Boatright added 16 points. Daniel Hamilton added seven points, nine rebounds and nine assists in the win.
Tulane travels to Oklahoma at face Tulsa on Wednesday at 7 p.m. CT. The next home game will be Feb. 28 when the Green Wave host Cincinnati.
