Dabney Scores 32 in Loss at Tulsa
Feb 25, 2015 | Men's Basketball
TULSA, Okla. - Louis Dabney poured in a career-high 32 points on Wednesday night to lead the Tulane men's basketball team, but his efforts were not enough as the Green Wave fell to host Tulsa, 76-55, at the Donald W. Reynolds Center in an American Athletic Conference game.
Dabney, a junior from New Orleans, shot 10-of-19 from the floor, including five-of-10 from three-point range and knocked down seven-of-nine at the free throw line to collected the Green Wave's (14-13, 5-10 American) highest individual scoring output of the season.
The first 15 minutes of the game featured eight lead changes and six ties thanks in part to Dabney, who scored 17 of the first 19 points for Tulane. The Green Wave led, 22-20, with 5:36 left in the half before Tulsa (20-7, 13-2 American) retook the lead with the ninth lead change on a three-pointer by James Woodard with 3:47 left. The Golden Hurricane then finished the half with a 14-4 run to lead by eight, 34-26, at the break.
Tulsa then pulled away in the second half by shooting 73.7 percent (14-19) from the floor and 70.0 percent (7-10) from three-point range in the final 20 minutes. The Golden Hurricane also went 7-8 from the free throw line in the second period of play.
"In my mind we just stopped defending. Our defensive execution late in the first half and in the second half was just not what it needs to be," Tulane head coach Ed Conroy said. "But certainly I give Tulsa a lot of credit too. They are an outstanding team and played like it tonight."
Jonathan Stark added eight points for Tulane, while Dylan Osetkowski chipped in with six points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Woodard finished the game with 18 points to lead Tulsa, while Rashad Smith had 17 points and eight rebounds.
Tulane returns home to host Cincinnati on Saturday at 1 p.m. CT.
