NEW ORLEANS - The 53th-ranked Tulane men's tennis team continued their winning ways on Sunday afternoon and claimed a fourth straight win to remain perfect at home with a, 4-1, victory over Georgia State at the Pepsi City Park Tennis Center.
The Green Wave (7-1) grabbed the doubles point with a pair of quick wins and then won three of the first four singles matches to earn the win over the visiting Panthers (2-5).
"We did a nice job taking care of business today against another tough opponent," Tulane head coach Mark Booras said. "We started off very well in doubles and carried that into the singles."
The Green Wave doubles pairs of Constantin Schmitz and Sebastian Rey and Alex and Ian Van Cott both earned, 6-3, wins to secure the point. Schmitz and Rey defeated Jannis Koeke and Andrei Andrukhou on court two, while the Van Cott twins upended Valentin Horvat and Sebastian Acuna on court three for the pair's ninth overall win this year.
Sophomore Chi-Shan Jao gave Tulane a 2-0 lead with a convincing, 6-0, 6-0, singles win over Horvat on court five.
"I was pleased with how Jao was able to respond in such a great way after a tough loss on Friday," Booras added. "He was able to come out and take care of business and get us on the board quick."
Schmitz's, 6-3, 6-2, win over Zack Kennedy on court three clinched the match for the Green Wave. The victory for the freshman was his seventh in as many tries this spring.
Rey, a sophomore, also posted a straight sets victory with a, 6-1, 6-1, win over Sebastian Acuna on court four.
"All the guys are doing a good job taking ownership of their responsibilities which is allowing them to compete well," Booras said. "We're looking forward to the very tough road trip next weekend."
The Green Wave will hit the road for the next five matches beginning on Feb. 15 against Nevada in Tucson, Arizona.
