NEW ORLEANS -- The wait is over. Tulane baseball was named as the No. 3 seed in the Baton Rouge Regional where they will square off against No. 2 seed UNC Wilmington on Friday, May 29, at 7pm CT at Alex Box Stadium in what will be the program's first NCAA Regional appearance since the 2008 season.
The Green Wave (34-23) share the regional with No. 1 seed LSU (48-10), No. 2 seed UNCW (39-15) and No. 4 seed Lehigh (25-29). Tulane's first game against the Seahawks will be televised on ESPN3.
"These guys have never been a part of something like this," stated Tulane baseball head coach David Pierce on his team. "They had no idea how to really react. This is our first step in terms of rebuilding the program, and there are so many people to thank, including the previous staff for bringing us some great kids to work with. The fans are started to get excited again. This is great for our city. We just couldn't be any happier to be given an opportunity to compete in an NCAA Regional."
The regional appearance will be the 20th overall for the Green Wave. Pierce has made the NCAA Regionals in each of his 15 years of coaching at the collegiate level.
