MALIBU, CALIF. - Tulane men's tennis standout Dominik Koepfer's run at the Oracle/ITA Master's Tournament came to an end in the semifinal round of the 2015-16 season's first national collegiate championship, falling in a close, three-set battle with TCU's No. 15 Cameron Norrie.
In order to reach Saturday's semifinal, Koepfer first had to go through Georgia's No. 16 Wayne Montgomery in the quarterfinal round. The Germany native rallied in multiple moments throughout the match to earn the hard fought three-set victory. First, Koepfer found himself dropping the first set 7-5. Then, in true fighting spirit, Koepfer stormed back down a break 3-5, not only in the second set, but in the third as well, taking them both by the score of 7-5 to advance.
In the semifinal nightcap vs. Norrie, Koepfer jumped out early, cruising in the first frame with a 6-1 set win. However, keeping to the dramatic theme of the day, Norrie retaliated in the second set, taking it 6-4.
In the third and final set, the two competitors went back-and-forth holding serve until it was Koepfer on serve down 5-4. With the game going to deuce, Norrie pushed again and won two straight points for the break and the match win, taking it 6-4.
Despite the loss, Koepfer has now reached the quarterfinals at the 2014 All-American Championships, and the semis at the 2014 ITA National Indoor Championships, and now the 2015 Oracle/ITA Master's Tournament.
