TULSA, Okla. – The woes on offense returned for the Tulane men's basketball team as it fell at Tulsa, 62-48 Saturday evening at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. Senior Louis Dabney came off the bench to score 17 points and add five steals to lead the Green Wave. Tulsa's Brandon Swannegan led the way with 19 points and 11 boards in the game.
Tulsa (14-7, 6-3 American) never trailed in the game, even with three ties early in the first half, the Golden Hurricane never gave up the lead. The Green Wave (8-15, 1-9 American) allowed Tulsa to quickly turn a one-point lead into a nine-point game by scoring eight straight points in a three-minute span.
A three from Dabney with under two minute remaining in the first half would be the last basket of the period and make it a two-possession game at the break, with Tulsa up 27-21. Neither team shot over 35-percent in the first half, and both neared the double-digit mark in turnovers.
The Green Wave got back within three points at the 16:30 mark in the second half after a three from redshirt junior Malik Morgan early on and a three-point play from Dabney. The Golden Hurricane responded quickly as Pat Birt hit a three and spark an 11-3 run to put its lead in double figures for the first time of the night.
A three from redshirt sophomore Cameron Reynolds with 11:39 to play and another from Dabney less than a minute later kept the difference in single digits, but Sterling Taplin responded for Tulsa with a three of his own to again lengthen the lead.
Neither team saw any kind of surge on the offensive end as both were plagued by turnovers the entire night. Tulsa committed 22 in the game, while Tulane tallied 21. The Green Wave struggled again on the offensive end, shooting just 28.8-percent from the field in the game, while Tulsa finished shooting 44.7-percent.
Reynolds, who returned to the starting lineup for the first time since the last meeting with the Golden Hurricane earlier this month, added nine points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Dylan Osetkowski finished with eight points and eight rebounds.
Rounding out the double-digit scorers for Tulsa was Taplin with 12 points off the bench and James Woodard with 10.
Tulane returns to action and New Orleans to host UCF on Thursday, Feb. 4. The game is set for 7 p.m.
