AUSTIN, Texas - Tulane women's golf returns to action for the third tournament this fall on Oct. 17-18 at the 43rd annual Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the UT Golf Club on the campus of the University of Texas.
The Green Wave are set to go against another nationally competitive field at this two-day, 54-hole tournament. Host Texas headlines the list that also includes Baylor, Kent State, Miami (Fla.), Notre Dame and SMU. The first two rounds get underway on Monday and the third round concludes on Tuesday.
"We are excited to start the Texas swing of our fall season and looking forward to teeing it up in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational," said head coach Lorne Don. "It is a course I am very familiar with and an excellent venue for women's collegiate golf."
To spark some low scores on an extremely challenging UT Golf Club course, Don is shaking up the Tulane lineup at the Betsy Rawls with sophomore Sofia Goicoechea slated to see her first tournament action this season. The younger Goicoechea will play at No. 5 with her sister and senior Belen Goicoechea playing at No. 1. Rounding the quintet for the Olive and Blue will be sophomore Laura Munoz at No. 2, freshman Haydyn Gibson at No. 3 and redshirt freshman Elise Genoux at No. 4.
Â
The Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational is contested annually and is named in honor of the longtime friend of former Longhorn head coach Pat Weis. A 1950 Texas graduate, Rawls became one of the most prolific golfers of her time, winning more than 50 tour championships between 1951 and 1975, including four U.S. Opens and appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1964.Â
"Our team has been improving through our first month and a half of practice and competition. We are ready to put together three solid tournament rounds against another strong field and see where that puts us," added Don.
Following the Betsy Rawls, the Green Wave are right back on the links in the Lone Star State next weekend Oct. 23-25 for their final fall tournament, the Maryb S. Kauth Invitational hosted by Texas-San Antonio.
