Volleyball Notches Five-Set Home Win Over Tulsa

NEW ORLEANS – The Green Wave volleyball team went to five sets for the second time this weekend, this time emerging victorious in a hard-fought 3-2 win over American Athletic Conference foe Tulsa. With the win, Tulane moves to 10-6 on the season and 2-2 in conference play before hitting the road next weekend for a pair of matches in Florida.

HOW IT WAS WON
Tulane came out strong in the first set, knocking the Golden Hurricane off 25-21 . In the second set, Tulane let go of an early lead and fell in a close 25-23 matchup. Following the set break, the Green Wave pieced together an impressive 25-16 victory, outhitting the Golden Hurricane 17 kills to 9 and .389 to .125 and maintaining the lead for the entire set. Tulsa would force a fifth outing in set four after clinching a handy 25-17 victory. Tulane took an early lead in set five, once again besting the Golden Hurricane in all offensive categories to come away with a 15-11 set win, clinching the match 3-2.
On the day, junior right-side hitter Sarah Ray led the Green Wave with 22 kills, while senior middle hitter Sarah Strasner hit .414 on 14 kills. Junior setter Justine Bowers notched 50 assists, more than doubling the number put up by Tulsa's setter.
UP NEXT
The Green Wave hit the road next weekend for a two-game set in Florida. Tulane will take on USF on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. in Tampa before heading to Orlando on Sunday for a 12:00 p.m. contest at UCF.
